Multiple Sonic games are on the way for the speedy hedgehog's 30th anniversary next year.

Sonic fansite Tails' Channel spotted the news in a Sonic series advertisement placed in the summer issue of Licensing Source Book Europe. Along with running down a quick greatest-hits of Sonic stats for potential licensors - that is, the folks who might want to sell you a Sonic T-shirt or shot glass or body pillow - the ad specifically mentions that 2021 is going to be a big year.

'A year of celebration - new games, digital content, events, major announcements, and a tailored licensing program,' the advertisement reads. Sega celebrated Sonic's 25th anniversary back in 2016 by announcing both Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces, though they didn't come out until 2017. Those are still the most recent Sonic games if you don't count spinoffs like Team Sonic Racing and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Sonic Mania was a fan-pleasing retro throwback largely developed by a team of independent creators, while Sonic Forces from Sonic Team itself had a much more tepid reception. It's too early to tell what game announcements Sega may have planned for Sonic's 30th anniversary, but a Sonic Mania 2 announcement would be perfectly timed and extremely welcome.

Beyond games, I wouldn't be surprised if the Sonic 30th anniversary celebrations include the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (the movie), since it's currently set to hit theaters in April 2022.

For everyone who played this I enjoy this fan game as well

good game, great music choice, decent gameplay, decent level design and graphics but i find some things kinda off...

first of all, the warning panels are kinda garbage. They almost never display the correct warning! Half of the time it will say 'pit' when there's actually an enemy or spikes in front of me, and i got a warning for 'enemy' when there were actually pits! Please fix this.

second, the final fight with nytron was hard to understand (most other bosses were hard to understand too), it wasn't very clear that you could teleport or that you could dash through the purple rocks to get more rings. The final attack was also confusing, I didn't know you had to spam teleport.

speaking of bosses, the homing attack nearly never works except for nytron 2.0, there the homing attack worked fine

thirdly, grinding is broken, there is not really any sense of momentum but that doesn't matter much, but downward slanted rails are super broken, most of the time sonic is floating above the rail and you can't jump off it.

and finally, when you get hit during a boss battle, it can be very punishing, pushing you to the edge of the screen. In the fight with Egg Eskimo it gets especially tiring as you constantly get hit by spikes or the snowballs, so you almost never get the chance to attack.

btw i find subzero sector harder than vegestoria just saying you might want to change that. There's a pit in S.S that you cant jump over at a high speed.

also btw, why does the main menu change if you fail against the final boss, it is cool though so don't get rid of it lmao

please add shadow, he has a modern sonic style and he has a homing attack too! he will be perfect for this game!

So far none more have been developed, but it may be an idea for the future. I'm planning on not adding much from what the game is so far, so if you had to suggest any character, what would it be? =)

This game, I have been working on since January 15 2019.

hm...how i can start? The game is pretty good, its effects and Etc, are very good, its gameplay is very good too, and Homing Attack helps a lot, and its Boss is also very good, but what impressed me the most was its effects, were very good indeed, I can not wait to play the next versions of this game! ^^
